Couples therapy
When working with couples I regard my client as your relationship. I don't take sides or see any one person as the problem. Instead I help you take a step back and gain insight into what is driving your relationship patterns at a deeper level - such as your emotional experience, past traumatic experiences, and influences from your family or origin. I then help you draw on that insight to find new ways of communicating and connecting.

I've supported couples with issues including:
-
Deciding whether to remain in a relationship
-
Affair recovery and moving on from past hurts
-
Improving communication
-
Addressing conflict
-
Parenting challenges
-
Navigating addiction
-
Managing separation

Typically I work with couples over six weekly sessions of one hour, and then review whether continuing would be beneficial.

As well as my core psychotherapy and family therapy training, I have completed the externship and core training skills modules of Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT) and often draw on this modality in my work with couples. EFT is a short term therapy, helping couples to improve connection and change negative cycles by expressing deeper emotions rather than reactive, conflictual ones.
